Philip Rivers and a dominate defense led the San Diego Chargers into sole possession of first place in the AFC West with a 32-3 victory over the Denver Broncos on Sunday. The Bolts (7-3) have won five straight games and the Broncos (6-4) have dropped four in a row. Five weeks ago, Denver looked like they owned the division by taking a 3.5 game lead over the Chargers. Rivers finished 17 for 22 and he led San Diego to scores on seven of ten drives. The Bolts recorded three sacks and forced three turnovers. Meanwhile, the Broncos were flagged nine times compared to San Diego’s one. This game was nothing like the Broncos 34-23 win in San Diego last month. Rivers told the press, “These last four weeks the guys up front have been unbelievable and (Denver) didn’t blitz near as much this game. It kind of surprised us they didn’t bring some of the stuff they did in that early game. And our guys handled good pass rushers. I was touched one time that I remember.” After Denver’s backup quarterback, Chris Simms, went 2 for 4 for 10 yards and failed to get his team downfield in the first three drives, Broncos coach Josh McDaniels replaced him with Kyle Orton. Orton drove the Broncos 60 yards on three completions and set up first-and-goal at the four before running back Knowshon Moreno fumbled the ball.
