Philip Rivers and the San Diego Chargers’ first unit offense got the team off in a great direction against the Atlanta Falcons. The Chargers were on a roll, even with LaDainian Tomlinson and Antonio Gates watching from the sidelines. Rivers got his team down the field and threw a touchdown in his first game since signing a contract extension. However, River’s TD wasn’t enough to win the game for the Chargers. The Atlanta Falcons’ backups came back to beat San Diego 27-24 in a preseason game this past Saturday. Rivers had a solid game, completing 10 of 15 passes for 185 yards and one touchdown. The quarterback inked a six-year deal worth $93 million last Monday. The Chargers frustrated the Falcons’ defense with big third down plays. The Chargers were able to convert 7 of 8 third downs just in the first half, and finished 11 of 16 in the game. Chargers head coach Norv Turner said his starters did a did a good job beating blitzes by the Falcons defense. The coach continued to say “I think it was most important for us to get off to a fast start. I think we accomplished what we wanted to accomplish as a coaching staff.”
