Chargers Roster

June 29, 2009

The 2009-2010 Chargers should be a healthier team compared to last season. In particular, quarterback Philip Rivers knee seems back to normal, center Nick Hardwick sore foot is better, and tight end Antonio Gates is not running on a bruised toe. This gives the Chargers optimism to win its first Super Bowl. Explosive running back, LaDainian Tomlinson, also returns to the squad in better shape. There is no signs of that serious groin injury which kept him out of last season’s playoffs. He was running, cutting and faking out players. He looked like his old self. “But now 30 years old and coming off his second consecutive season which ended with an injury, many wondered if Tomlinson still had the get up and go. Tomlinson, though, proved time and again in the practices that there are plenty of skills still at his beck and call.” The Chargers will either go with Kynan Forney or rookie Luis Vasquez at right guard. Forney did not play last year, but was on the Chargers lineup. Vasquez, a third round pick, has to prove he can make the transition from blocking in a spread offense at Texas Tech to one that supports the running game. Larry English was the Chargers top pick in the draft and will contribute right away, according to coach Norv Turner. If Shawne Merriman is not ready to go, look for English in the lineup.
