Rumors were that A.J. Smith would have some sort of announcement about the status of LaDainian Tomlinson when he addressed the media yesterday, but he only said that the Chargers are working with him and hoping for him to stay next season. After talking about some of his mistakes in dealing with the star running back this offseason, he was on to more subjects. He touched on another running back Darren Sproles as well as others.
He also commented on his own progress, saying, “I’m not very pleased with my own contributions the last two years personally. I critique myself every year just like I do with everybody else. I need to do a better job. I’m not happy with some of the player personnel decisions that have been made in looking back. I need to do a better job in the decision-making process.”
He wasn’t the only one to be called out. Smith also hinted that he sat down with some players letting them know a heightened expectation for the 2009 season. From all of his comments, Smith has a sunny outlook for the 2009 season, hinging on the work of some of his players. Get your San Diego Chargers tickets from StubHub.com.
