Chargers to Pass More?

February 29, 2008

According to this report out of Pro Football Weekly, the San Diego Chargers will be leaning more on their passing game next season.  The report doesn’t exactly site any actual sources, and sounds like a lot of conjecture to me, to be honest.  But it’s kind of a slow news day for the Chargers, who will likely have a quiet free agency period.  The Chargers don’t exactly need anyone to come in an fill a big hole on their roster, so I don’t see them paying out the nose to bring in a big name.  So, instead of the normal stories you’d be seeing right now, you’re going to see more of this tripe.

I really feel like Pro Football Weekly posted this story just to get some attention from the San Diego fans and drive traffic.  First of all, it was a point of contention all last year that the Chargers were possibly misusing LT.  So it seems like running this story would generate lots of comments.  But the fact remains that Norv Turner is simply trying to create a more balanced attack in an effort to open up the field for LT to sincerely run wild.  The Chargers have talented wide receivers.  They have a very solid quarterback and leader.  They may pass more, but not much more.  And it won’t be to the detriment of LT.
