Chargers Number 1 Again

July 13, 2007

ESPN.com’s daily list of the top 10 teams at each position continues today, with ESPN ranking the top 10 offensive lines in the National Football League.  The teams are ranked based on how the units play together, how may yards a team averages per rush, and how few sacks they allow.  As any Houston Texans fan can tell you, a quality offensive line is an integral part of any winning team, and if your line can’t keep your quarterback protected or help open holes for your running backs to run through, then your team is most likely in for a very long season.

Once again, the San Diego Chargers topped the list.  This makes four of five of these lists in which the Chargers have found themselves in the top 10, and three of five in which they are positioned at number one by espn.com’s analysts.  The Chargers have a fairly dominant D-line as well, for those out there who weren’t aware, and I’m just starting to wonder how many positions one team can be truly dominant at before people actually sit up, pay attention, and start admitting that there is absolutely no reason why this team couldn’t make a deep playoff run this year.  But then again, until they win in the playoffs, this is probably as much respect as the Chargers are going to get.
