Could the Chargers be leaving San Diego?

November 29, 2006

It is up for speculation whether or not the San Diego Chargers continue to call San Diego home in the near future.  One of the problems is that Qualcomm Stadium is nearly 40 years old and needs to be replaced by a modern facility for the Chargers.  The Chargers reportedly want a new stadium so that they can make greater revenues and attract better players and coaches.

Chargers executives say that they want to keep the team in San Diego, but they can begin relocation talks with any other U.S. city as of January 1.  The team could then move after the 2008 season by paying the balance of $60 million in bonds to the city of San Diego.  For now, The Fans, Taxpayers, and Business Alliance is acting to keep the Chargers in San Diego.

San Diego Chargers Commentary

November 28, 2006

The San Diego Chargers continued their winning way this weekend against a hapless Oakland Raiders squad, winning by a score of 21-14. Star running back LaDainian Tomlinson was virtually unstoppable as he has been all season, scoring two touchdowns and passing for one more. Tomlinson has 24 touchdowns on the season, making him only five touchdowns shy of breaking the NFL record of 28 set by Shaun Alexander during his MVP season of 2005. San Diego Chargers Tickets are available to the December 10 game against the Denver Broncos.

Though the Chargers came out on top, they did make their fans nervous. They allowed the Raiders first-blood as Oakland scored in the second inning to take a 7-0 lead. Against a Raiders team that has two wins on the season, this one should have been a sure thing from the get-go. Thankfully, Antonio Cromartie returned the kickoff for 91 yards and Tomlinson waltzed into the end zone to tie the game.

Shawne Merriman is back

The good news is that Shawne Merriman was back in uniform on Monday after serving a four-game suspension and is ready to start smashing quarterbacks again. Merriman was tied for first place in sacks with 8 ½ when he started his suspension. He is now tied with six others for fifth.

LaDainian Tomlinson Lifts San Diego Chargers over Oakland Raiders

November 27, 2006

San Diego Chargers star running back LaDainian Tomlinson seems to be all but unstoppable this season and he helped his Chargers cement their hold on first place in the AFC West with a win over the Raiders this weekend. Tomlinson ran for 109 yards on 19 carries with a pair of touchdowns as the Chargers felled the Raiders by a score of 21 – 14.

This win was huge, especially since the second-place Denver Broncos will be coming to San Diego on December 10. San Diego Chargers Tickets to the game cost anywhere between $92 and $1,150.

LaDainian Tomlinson lifts the Chargers to victory

As for the Chargers, they won their fifth in a row, holding off a late-game Raiders rally that almost tied it. Philip Rivers went 14-for-31 and 133 yards with an interception. Not his best performance to be sure, but the Chargers are off to their best start since they won eight of their first ten in 1994 when they went all the way to the Super Bowl only to lose to the San Francisco 49ers.

San Diego Chargers vs. Oakland Raiders

November 26, 2006

The surging San Diego Chargers take on the Oakland Raiders this afternoon. The Chargers and LaDainian Tomlinson put up a remarkable effort last weekend against the Denver Broncos to take sole possession of the AFC West and the Chargers are now looking to secure that lead. San Diego Chargers Tickets are still available to their remaining three home games against the Broncos on December 10, the Chiefs on December 17 and then the Cardinals on December 31.

The Chargers made up for a sloppy first-half against the Broncos last weekend to take first in the AFC West. Now, the Chargers are ready to bury the Raiders for good. What makes these Chargers so impressive is how they have defied the odds and now stand as the Number 1 offense in the league and sport an impressive defense despite a slew of injuries and the absence of Shawne Merriman.

LaDainian Tomlinson faces a Raiders team that gives up 135 yards rushing per game

Just how bad are the Raiders? They have thrown as many touchdowns this season (5) as they did during the entire five-game preseason and 14 interceptions. They have the worst offense in the league and Raiders’ quarterbacks have been sacked 48 times. The Chargers faced the Raiders back on September 11, 2006 and won 27-0 with nine sacks. This should be a fun one.

San Diego Chargers defeat Denver Broncos

November 20, 2006

The San Diego Chargers are now “the team to beat” in the NFL after squaring off against the Denver Broncos yesterday and coming out on top by a score of 35 to 27. The win means that the Chargers are now the best team in their division and highlights many of the reasons why they should be considered one of the best teams in the NFL. The Chargers will be home next weekend to take on the Oakland Raiders. San Diego Chargers Tickets to the game cost anywhere from $50 to $1,250.

And who made all the big plays to help San Diego notch this one up in the win column? None other than running back LaDainian Tomlinson. Tomlinson scored four touchdowns – three running and one receiving – on way to the Chargers 35-27 win in Denver. Tomlinson has scored an NFL-record 19 touchdowns in his last six games. High moves were critical this weekend, especially since the Broncos opened up to a 24-7 lead early in the game.

Tomlinson finished the game with 104 yards rushing while Rivers complimented, completing 19 of 26 passes for 222 yards and two touchdowns.

San Diego Chargers at Denver Broncos

November 19, 2006

The San Diego Chargers will take on the Denver Broncos today for control of the AFC West. Both teams stand atop the West with a record of 7-2. Somehow the Chargers pulled out a victory last weekend against the Cincinnati Bengals despite the fact that many members of the Bengals put up some of the best numbers ever to be produced by the franchise. The Chargers will return home after this one to take on the Oakland Raiders on November 26. San Diego Chargers Tickets to the Raiders game cost anywhere from $70 to $1,250.

The Chargers comeback victory against the Begals showed why they have the best offense in the NFL. Since their 16-13 loss against Baltimore earlier in the season, the Chargers have averaged 36.1 points per game and Quarterback Philip Rivers has developed into one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. So far this season, he’s thrown 13 TDs and only three interceptions.

LaDainian Tomlinson has only scored two touchdowns against the Broncos

There is only one other quarterback in the NFL with as few interceptions as Rivers and that is Peyton Manning. The difference between these two, however, is that Rivers is a third-year quarterback who is in his first year as a starter, taking over from Drew Brees. Rivers has gone 122 consecutive passes and 15 quarters without an interception, making the Chargers second in the NFL in turnover ratio, at plus-9.

San Diego Chargers topple Cincinnati Bengals

November 12, 2006

This wasn’t a game that San Diego Chargers fans thought they would have to hold their breath for. But when the Cincinnati Bengals scored three unanswered touchdowns in the first quarter against a seemingly hapless Chargers defense, it seemed logical to prepare for the worst. But the Chargers came roaring back in the second half behind the throwing arm of Philip Rivers and running back LaDainian Tomlinson to take the lead and secure the win. San Diego Chargers Tickets to the November 26 game against the Oakland Raiders are available for anywhere between $72 and $1,284.

San Diego Chargers came back and then held off the Bengals

This one came right down to the wire, with the Bengals making it all the way to the San Diego 15 yard line in the final minute of the fourth quarter. But the Chargers managed to tighten up their defense and put this one to rest, winning 49-41 in Ohio. Philip Rivers completed 24 of 36 passes for 337 yards and three touchdowns while LaDainian Tomlinson ran for 107 yards and 4 touchdowns.

The now 4-5 Bengals were desperate coming into this one and arguably needed this one to keep their playoff hopes alive. The now 7-2 Chargers needed this one to keep pace with the Denver Broncos.

San Diego Chargers vs. Cincinnati Bengals

November 11, 2006

The San Diego Chargers will be on the road for the next few weeks until the Oakland Raiders come to Qualcomm Stadium on November 26. San Diego Chargers Tickets are still available, and fans are spending anywhere from $73 to $1,292 to catch the Chargers take on the Raiders. In the meantime, the Chargers will take on the Cincinnati Bengals this weekend.

The Chargers are looking to keep up their winning ways against the 4-4 Bengals after winning the past two weeks against the Browns and the Rams. LaDainian Tomlinson has led the Chargers’ surge lately with 3 touchdowns and 172 yards last weekend and the Chargers are going to need him to keep putting up big numbers if they hope to keep pace with the Denver Broncos.

LaDainian Tomlinson has led the Chargers surge

The Chargers are in contention for top team in the AFC. The Chargers beat the Patriots the last two times they faced them, beat the Colts last time they faced them, and outplayed the 6-2 Ravens before losing.

The Bengals are getting desperate to keep their playoff chances alive after dropping their last two straight. They are decidedly below average in all categories, and the Chargers are coming off wins in four of their last five games.

San Diego Chargers vs. Cleveland Browns: Outlook

November 4, 2006

San Diego Chargers Tickets for Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns are still available. This is a good opportunity to catch the Chargers in action because tickets to this one don’t seem to be in high demand. Fans can find tickets to this one for anywhere from $40 to $309. Kickoff is tomorrow at 1:15 p.m. at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego.

The Chargers (5-2) are coming off a huge win last weekend over the St. Louis Rams that propelled them back into first place with the Denver Broncos. The Browns (2-5) are, surprisingly, also coming off a win over the Jets last weekend but find themselves tied with Pittsburgh for last place. And though ‘the beast’ Shawn Merriman will not be playing this Sunday, the Browns still have to worry about the rest of his teammates – the second-ranked Chargers defense.

Even without Merriman, the Chargers are huge favorites

One of things that makes the Chargers so effective on the other side of the ball is simply – these guys hit hard. It will be interesting to see how the Chargers play defense without Merriman. The 2nd year star is tied for the league-lead with 8 ½ sacks and posted three of them last weekend against the Rams. But if LaDainian Tomlinson can keep the wheels he had last weekend – in which he rushed for a career high in yards and three touchdowns, the Chargers should be just fine in this one.
